KanCare Update and Information

The State of Kansas has awarded contracts to three managed companies to provide Medicaid services to Kansans under the new KanCare program. The contracts are with Amerigroup Kansas, Inc., Sunflower State Health Plan, and United Healthcare of the Midwest, Inc. They were chosen from among five competitors for the contracts to manage the publicly funded health care of Kansans who qualify for Medicaid. The vision subcontractors are as follows:

• Ocular Benefits - Amerigroup
• OptiCare - Sunflower State Health Plan
• Opticare - United Health Care

  Providers should contact the Amerigroup precertification department through either their website, fax (800-359-5781) or phone (800-454-3730).
  Amerigroup’s precertification process can accommodate authorizations to providers who are not currently in the contracting and/or credentialing phases.
• Sunflower: Authorization requests may be submitted by fax (fax forms located in Provider Resources), phone or secure web portal. Urgent requests for prior authorization should be called in as soon as the need is identified. Providers may fax requests to: Medical Services 1-888-453-4316.
